We are a family living in rural North Carolina. Hubby and I are both at least 4th generation natives of North Carolina, (could be more, that’s as far as we know). So yeah, that makes our kiddos at least 5th generation good ol’ North Carolinians. It is unusual this day and time to marry a “home boy” and stay not only in the same state, but also in the same county, but that is exactly what we have done. Who knows we may just up and move one of these fine days, but North Carolina will always be our home.
We are blessed beyond belief with a wonderful family. We have 5 kids, 2 grands (with one on the way) and Life is Busy.
Hubby is Billy, (aka Buddy, because he is my best Buddy) I am Debra. We are an average family, just doing what we can to raise a well-adjusted brood. We have homeschooled our kids since 1998. We try to make mostly healthy and frugal choices when it comes to what we put in our bodies, and on our bodies, but we are not slaves to these choices.
You can find me juicing fruit and veggies and making a green smoothie, while on the same day you can also catch me enjoying a 2nd bowl of homemade Milky Way ice cream and a bag of chips, go figure. Like I said we aren’t slaves to healthy choices, it’s all about balance with us. We blow it often, we are just trying to do what we can to be a little healthier, a little “greener”, and better stewards of what we have been so blessed with. It is a constant challenge and we fail often, daily even.
In 2004, when our youngest two kiddos were 4 and 5 years old, they were diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. The diagnosis came 5 months apart and left us in a tail spin that changed the way we think about a lot of things. Mainly chemicals in common household items and in the foods we eat.
Our doctor told us that there is a lot of evidence that points directly to an environmental effect that could be a contributing factor of the many health concerns today, Type 1 Diabetes being one of them.
So, we have put forth a lot of effort through the years to drastically reduce the amount of chemicals in our home.
In this virtual home-place, we hope to find like-minded friends to share thoughts and experiences and we hope you will receive something useful here.
See, I told you we’re just an average family.
